EMDR Trauma Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) is a unique therapy which features bi-lateral stimulation of the brain by eye movement, which prods the brain to release and process disturbing memories, traumatic events, and repetitive nightmares. The memory, the emotions, the negative beliefs, and the body sensations associated with the troublesome memories are unlocked and processed by this therapy.

In essence, EMDR therapy fades the memory; knocks down negative emotions to lessen or eliminate triggers; enables objectivity and truth to conquer negative thoughts and beliefs; and lessens or relieves body sensations related to the memory. Many times, this means that pain and other physical discomfort in the body, resolves along with relief from triggered emotions and negative thinking.

The stimulation of the brain by eye movement organizes and speeds up processing of events that could take many months or years to accomplish with talk therapy alone.  EMDR is internationally known and respected for its amazing effectiveness in treating trauma and anxiety issues, and other issues that are resistant to traditional counseling methods.

I frequently take referrals from non-EMDR therapists to work with their clients for the EMDR portion of treatment – a wonderfully cooperative effort to meet the needs of our clients. Contact me for a consultation appointment and more details about EMDR therapy.

“EMDR . . . Reduced my symptoms 95% or more; helped tremendously, other counseling did not help this much; I am forever grateful that EMDR helped and lessened my emotional feelings/reactions to things that surrounded my distress.”
